The families of Schechingen (Herren von Schechingen)
Schechingen is a small village in Germany in the state of Baden-Württemberg (indicated on the maps).
The first known member, Ber von Schechingen, was mentioned in 1282.The last member, Ulrich, died in 1518.
The first male members were knights. They were servants (Dienstleute) of the counts of Württemberg. They occupied the position of stewards (Vögte) in nearby villages.
Under the rule of the Staufer and their responsibilities for the counts of Württemberg the family of Schechingen developed close relations with the monastery of Lorch, near to Schechingen. The monastery was the burial place of the Staufer and also of the family of Schechingen. Two sons of this family were abbots in Lorch, another was abbot in the monastery of Auhausen. One of them was a canon.
